Stress can have a huge impact on your body. Your central nervous system is primarily in charge of your fight or flight response in the brain.
It tells your adrenal glands to release the hormones cortisol and adrenaline. These hormones essentially speed up your heartbeat and they also send blood rushing to the areas that require it the most.
When the fear is gone, your hypothalamus should tell all of your bodily functions to go back to normal, but if you are under chronic stress, this might not be the case. The result is a long-term effect on your body.
Digestive System
Under stress, you will soon find that your liver produces a lot of extra blood sugar. This gives you a boost of energy.
If you are under a lot of stress however then you may find that your body is not able to keep up with all of this and that you end up putting yourself at risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
The rush of hormones, combined with rapid breathing and an increased heart rate can easily upset your digestive system and it can also increase your stomach acid.
Stress doesn’t cause ulcers but it can put you at a way higher risk of them, which is the last thing you need.
Reproductive System
Stress is exhausting, for your body and your mind. It is not unusual for you to lose the desire for intimacy when you are under a great deal of stress.
Even though short-term stress causes men to produce more testosterone, it’s important to know that this doesn’t last. If you continue to experience stress for a very long time then this can lead to issues such as erectile dysfunction.

Muscular System
When you are under a great deal of stress, your muscles will tense up so that they can protect themselves against injuries. After this, they released again.
