When you are in a state of relaxation, your body heals. One way you can get into a state of healing is by meditating. You can consciously relax your body, part by part and feel an amazing sense of relaxation. Meditation benefits are many!
Once you know how, you can practise this technique daily. So, this is a tool you can use daily to aid your own healing.
I am a hypnotherapist and NLP trainer so getting my clients into a state of relaxation is a must. In this state of relaxation we can really get to work. To understand this better, here is some information on the autonomic nervous system (ANS).
The autonomic nervous system regulates a variety of body processes that takes place without conscious effort.
The autonomic nervous system is the part of the nervous system responsible for control of bodily functions not directed by conscious thought, such as breathing, the heart beating, and digestive processes.
This system has a direct role in physical response to stress and is divided into the sympathetic nervous system (SNS), and the parasympathetic nervous system (PNS).
When the body is stressed, the sympathetic nervous system contributes to what is known as the “fight or flight” response. This is not a state we need to be in for healing.
The parasympathetic nervous system counterbalances the sympathetic nervous system and returns the body to its natural baseline state after the systematic nervous system activates.
The parasympathetic system conserves energy as it slows the heart rate, increases intestinal and gland activity, and relaxes sphincter muscles in the gastrointestinal tract.
We need our parasympathetic system switched on for healing and this is what relaxation and meditation does. This is also the system that is switched on when we sleep and heal.
So if you want to relax you need to switch on your parasympathetic nervous system.
