Writing the Feel Good Tracker iPhone/iPad/IPod touch app has become a big part of pursuing my dreams and goals. When my mother passed away last year, it made me think about my own situation. I had been doing software engineering for over 20 years and I realized that I wasn’t really happy with the way my life was going. The job I’d held for the past eight years paid well and the benefits were good, but the long hours and nonstop stressful work environment were taking their toll on me both physically and mentally. I wished I had more time to spend with my family and friends and do my favorite activities like skiing, mountain biking, rock climbing, and fishing. I’ve struggled with trying to stay in good shape, which can be especially hard when working a sedentary, high-stress job. I had always dreamed of taking a year off before I was fifty, but leaving a well-paying job always seemed too drastic and it certainly wasn’t what society expected me to do. Despite these doubts, I kept thinking about how life is too short and how I didn’t want to spend the rest of it in a job that no longer made me happy. Although I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, I decided to leave my job and try to “reset” my life’s direction. A month or two after I was out of the corporate environment, I realized how much I loved to develop software applications. Since I already had a Mac and an iPhone, I decided to try to write an iPhone app for my own personal use. I wanted the program to be positive, extremely intuitive, and easy to use, and soon enough, I had the idea to create the Feel Good Tracker. I formed the very small company Lone Moose Software and started working on the Feel Good Tracker. A handful of people have really pitched in on developing the Feel Good Tracker. Everyone who has helped has done it for the learning experience and has had fun working for Lone Moose Software. There’s a chance and hope that there will also be some financial benefit, but that remains to be seen. The Feel Good Tracker is intentionally easy to use and costs 99 cents. It’s versatile and can be used to log and rate virtually any activity. What I especially like about it is that I can make an entry with an optional photo and email it to whomever I want in less than 2 minutes. I've heard of people using the Feel Good Tracker to track and rate: Weight loss progress, Skiing, Restaurants, Watching sunsets, Books, Movies, Gardening, Horseback riding, Mountain biking, Wine tasting etc. Click here to see in the App store. I’m really glad that I made a major life transition from working in the corporate world for over twenty years to becoming an entrepreneur. I’ve been able to spend more quality time with my family and have made some new close friends. It’s been a challenging change but I have no regrets. Dave Crane |
